To Be Read: 2020

Every year I try to set a to be read list for me to follow, but I never know how many to put on it. So this year I looked at my shelves and picked 12 that I want to read. I figured I should a least read one book a month that I already own, and these books can be that. I am not going to assign certain books to a month because I would probably never follow it. So the following 12 books are the ones I hope to read in the year 2020.

  1. The Cactus by Sarah Haywood

I actually read the first chapter of this novel in late 2019, but I got distracted and didn’t get much further. So I hope to finish it in the beginning of 2020. It was one of the novels chosen for Reese Witherspoon’s book club, so it has to be good, right?

  2. 12 Rules for Life by Jordan B. Peterson

I have seen this book recommended by a few bookstagramers in the past few months. I like reading these type of books that help you with life things and organization so I added it to the list. This might be a good recommendation for someone who is a little lost in life or just needs help with some aspects. I have read similar books, so I will see what is different or not with these 12 rules.

  3. The Female Persuasion by Meg Wolitzer

I have owned this book for a while and I remember seeing the very bright cover, thinking it sounded very interesting, and buying it, but haven’t gotten around to reading it.

  4. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

This book got a lot of hype when it came out and the sequel, Children of Virtue and Vengeance, comes out soon, so it is about time I got around to reading it. I have heard basically all good things about this book, but not a lot of details of what it is about. So no spoilers at least.

  5. Whisper Network by Chandler Baker

I picked up this book one day while shopping in Target because it sounded interesting. I passed over buying Serpent & Dove, which I have heard many good things about, to get this novel. Hopefully I made a good choice!

  6. My Absolute Darling by Gabriel Tallent

I love the cover of this book. I know you’re not suppose to judge a book by its cover, but sometimes that is how I pick one. I have owned this novel for a bit and haven’t heard much about it, so really going in blind when reading this one. Sometimes that is for the best!

  7. Educated by Tara Westover

My mom could not stop raving about this book after she read it. I think she told my family about it many times. I have also heard others, who I follow, rave about it, so my interest were very peaked. Plus the story just sounds so astounding. This might be the first one I tackle in the new year.

  8. The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

I loved the Night Circus when I first read it in August 2019. I even made it my bullet Journal theme for the month of October. I am sure I will eat up this story in the same way as the Night Circus, since Erin has a great writing style.

  9. All The Best by George H. W. Bush

This book is compilation of letters written by President Bush through out his life and shows a different side of him than his politics. I have loved reading other letters written by people and I think it will be a great read.

  10. Brooklyn by Colm Tóibín

I watched the movie adaptation of this novel when it came out and really enjoyed it. I finally found a copy at my local used book store and had to have it because, the book is always better than the movie, right? Either way I am sure it is to be a great read.

  11. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

This is another book that my mom talked about after reading. I haves heard and owned this book for over a year. I actually own a UK version because I bought it while chillin’ in the Leeds airport, so it’s about time I read it.

  12. Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins

I heard about this story through some bookstagramers and their post after reading it. It is all about his control of his mind and how it helps him accomplish amazing things, so maybe I can learn something from it while reading. Might read this in the second quarter of the year when my new year motivation is lacking lol.
